Design critiques that level up your team without killing creativity
How I run design reviews that senior engineers, PMs and designers actually enjoy, and that lead to better product decisions.
Great design critiques feel like collaboration, not judgment. This piece shares facilitation techniques I've borrowed from Google's Design Sprint playbook and adapted for remote teams.
Simple rituals that keep critiques healthy
On teams I coach, we keep a few simple rituals: time‑boxed rounds of silent feedback, clear prompts (e.g. "What's working?" before "What's missing?"), and a strong facilitator who makes sure quieter voices are heard. We summarise the session into two or three concrete actions and assign owners on the spot.
Over many cycles this builds a culture where engineers, designers and PMs feel safe bringing unfinished work to the table, which is exactly when feedback is most valuable.
